it was a great movie... but some things i didnt understand!
Ok..
Why did he try to assasinate that politician? He said he agreed with him in the back of his taxi, he had campaign stickers up in his apartment... but more importantly it showed interviews where he is saying we are the people and we need to work together to clean up the streets, something that Travis does in the end, so why did he want the dude dead? Kill the ***** that works for him instead!
Secondly... how come he got off scott free after murdering all those people? Regardless of whether they were ***** or not you cant just murder them! The police find him and he ends up driving taxis again? did i miss something?!?

Are we going to get into the larger sociological issue as to what made someone use President Ron like a paintball target.
I think "The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane." with is subtle eroticism has to be considered in the equation.
I do not know what it is with that film but for males in general the range of puberty when it hit the home HBO esque market of the time it had a major impact.

It sounds like you know the movie better than I.
I do not know if everything was done for a reason, that's why I like directors cuts.
Take Raging Bull
It looked the way it did largly because the director used a look that had been used in silent films.
And we know that that look was used to convey a certain thought about what was going on.
It was not just a put it in for the **** of it it will look cool.
We can now hopefully begin to extrapalate what is going on and why within the confines of the film.
It depends on how a film is supposed to be viewed.
You do not hear much of that in discussion.

I didn't really like taxi driver when i finished it, although I liked it when i was watching it.
I think travis dies when he gets shot. The scene afterwards is something else? Heaven? Something what happened before he got shot? Don't know.
He's crazy. Crazy people like shooting important people.

I think he got away with the killing because he
was unarrestable by the time the media had finished with the story about him resucing the girl. He was a hero.
Trial by Media if you like.
I think he wanted to kill the politician because he needed to touch the world in some way. Because he was disassocaited and needed to connect. It could have been any politican. I think he says that he likes him just because he knows of him and he is obviously someone important.
Remember Travis is a psycho, and see's connections where there arent any.
